College Preparation| Based on age and grade, our student-athletes, in order to better prepare for matriculation at university, are placed on a track program in which they are monitored and supported to ensure academic achievement in the present; informed of and walked through the college admissions process; exposed to comprehensive information about myriad colleges and universities; and assisted in matching their interests and needs to undergraduate schools that best meet them.

Standardized Exam Preparation| Our student-athletes enroll and participate in classes that teach subject-area content found in and test-taking skills necessary for the SAT and ACT, national examinations requisite for admission to most colleges and universities.

College Recruitment| Our program helps its student-athletes pursue basketball on a collegiate level and attain athletic scholarships.  Baseline contacts prospective coaches; compiles a recruiting packet for said coaches on behalf of the young woman; helps her identify colleges whose academics and basketball program are suitable; and ensures on-time completion of college applications.

Literacy Enrichment| In a literacy program mandatory for all Baseline participants, student-athletes supplement in-school literacy initiatives by reading ac cessible ye t sophisticated literature; forging connections between the novel’s characters and themes and their own lives and worlds; enriching their vocabulary; honing writing skills through text-based assignments as well as exposure to the author’s “model” writing; and learning to incorporate reading, writing, and critical thinking into their everyday lives.

Community Service| Our student-athletes, on a monthly basis, participate in established or self-organized community service projects.  Their involvement in charitable work enables them to experience the virtue of caring for and respecting their neighbors and communities; fosters a cooperative nature and a sense of accountability to others; and encourages humility and selflessness.

Mentoring| In addition to the mentoring inherent in the player-coach relationship, current participants are paired with Baseline alumnae in a “Big Sister, Little Sister” program, in which the “sisters” interrelate in both formal and informal capacities.

Basketball Skill Development| Perhaps the cornerstone of Baseline, our basketball program aims to teach student-athletes not only how to play the game but also how to be teachers of the game, themselves.  Free, weekly Saturday clinics help girls learn, execute, and master the fundamentals of basketball, and frequent team practices allow players to feel confident as they further develop their skill-sets and engage in competition.

Athletic Training| Under the supervision of Co-Director and certified trainer Yamisi Fanga, student-athletes follow an exercise regimen that develops crucial muscle groups and functions; girds athletic capability; helps prevent Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tears—a common injury amongst female athletes; and teaches an awareness of and respect for their athletic bodies and how they function.

Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Traveling| In addition to play on the local level, Baseline teams compete in AAU-sanctioned tournaments in the City as well as in the Northeast region.  Not only does participation in and travel to tournaments permit student-athletes to try their skills against the finest teams in the country and demonstrate their abilities for college recruiters, they provide an invaluable opportunity for our young women to see and experience, however briefly, life outside New York City, as well.

Participation in Local Tournaments| Our student-athletes play in major New York City basketball tournaments, including Nike Rose Classic, Nike Uptown Challenge, West 4th Street, and NYC Bombsquad.
